Out at the In-laws 2
After sitting in part sun part shade
beneath a true blue sky
willow leaves weaving in wind
pond fronds dancing counterpoint
soft plop of frog into water
the pond dog stinking of mud and algae
I hear her say of her father
“He’s a wild man with a weed wacker”
before we walk back up the hill
where she sits at the piano
with out of practice fingers
thick and faltering beginning
Beethoven’s Sonata Pathétique
Number 8 in C minor Opus 13
until tapping muscle memory
she flits faster firmer former flow
filling the room with music glow
before we go
her sleeping as I chariot her home
to wedded this
and bed and sleep and cat
and is.
