Ain’t No Crow Fly

Quoting quantum quirks
There is no time
no space
no down the line
no as the crow flies
all cultural lies
tools of brain to explain
scene unseen
through skull bone
but perceived
analyzed, reconceived
inside mind
leaving no over the hill
because there is no hill
you see what you see
because you be
you find what you seek
your questions define answer
your expectations manifest is

Expect good, get good
seek sad, too bad

Cyborg Smith

Mighty Man – fotos by Smith

Cy•borg (sbôrg) n.
A human who has certain physiological processes aided or controlled by mechanical or electronic devices.– thefreedictionary.com

Now that I have Titanium and ceramic implants, I was thinking of getting a cape and dance tights and a mask and calling myself Mighty Man or Titanium Smith, or maybe just put a big AM on my chest and go as Amazing Man.

But after reading the definition above, I think cyborg covers it – Cyborg Smith, man of metal.

Looking at the X-ray, I see they screwed my hip socket in with a very long screw. It’s like I went into the repair shop for body work. I’m going to be real popular at airports when I go through security – I’ll set off all kinds of alarms.

Inspiration

Into egg ovular
cut glass silence

rusted circle
metal round
eye yellow

stone heart
boomerang would
underbelly red

Many Women

Enigmatic Lady – foto by Smith

Many Women

She’s a strange creature, my wife
as she wanders room to room
from vacuum cleaner to broom
then sits on floor
paints costume jewelry black
tapes vine to vein
time to train
and rhyme as vain
unless rain with thunder
and lightning
always the lightning
inside and out
no gradiated grid to grill
continuity but lost cost
in Heisenberg collapse
in imported wave
in particle particular
she probability probes
in one lobe but not the other
coming always from either
walking two whirl whorl
worlds at once
you get more than one
hourly daily weekly
when.

Can can’t

Utilitarian

Do what I can do
Can’t undo other’s
Clean my corner
Toss my trash
Don’t get mad at those
Whose can’ts my can clash

Kind of weird but in a way I miss my old horrendously debilitating degenerated hip bone pain. It defined me for years, gave me an opponent to fight to get through each day. People would ask me how I was and I’d say “I endure.”

With this hip replacement, that pain’s gone, leaving a new me, only the new me is floundering around trying to find out who this new me should be. What it seems is I’m still the old me only without the pain. I don’t want to be the old me; I want to be a new and better me — but that takes work and discipline, and I’m essentially lazy. Always have been, always will be.

So welcome to the new Smith, same as the old Smith, looking for a new myth, struggling through the old mist.

Daily Deconstruction

Who am I?
Where my why?
What my lie?
Where my land lay?
What my hand pay?
Why my mouth say?
What have I done?
Why am I one?
Where is my sum?
Why am I low?
Where do I go?
Who do I show?
When is my will free?
What is my heart plea?
Which am or am not me?
Am I lazy?
Certifiably crazy?
Mutant maybe?

To not, or be
I must see.

10 by Smith & Lady (will be at Serafino Gallery this month)

Bridge, 2010, Lady K, 20″ x 30″ – foto by Smith

June 23, Lady and I are going to be part of a poetry reading and group show at the Serafino Gallery in Little Italy, Cleveland, Ohio. We’ll each have maybe 12 pieces in the show. Here are a few of them.

“Please join poet/artists Steven Smith, Kathy Smith and Mark S. Kuhar, as well as artist Ralph Solonitz, for “Outsider Art, Underground Poetry,” at Serafino Gallery in Little Italy. View strange works of folk, primitive and art brut; political cartoons, and listen to poetry, cosmic love songs and bongo chants. Show runs June 18 – 30.”

There will be a poetry reading as well on June 23 featuring the artists.

Four of these pieces were created in Croatia, France, and London during our travels, so there’s a lot of foreign trash, garbage and street clutter involved.
