Of Winter Discontent

Of winter discontent much is said
of such and such in snow bound loss
of cold wind blowing icy dread
and digging deep mind body cost.

The salted clothes and wetted shoe
and of course chapped sniffling nose
makes going out quite hard to do
intent on keeping warm door closed.

The birds do beg for extra seed
and mice come in to hide from cold
their little droppings showing need
to catch release the over bold.

Once winter comes our hunger feeds
on lack of sun and light and sky
so inner stomach cries in need
feed me, fill me, fuel me, try.

We sit and eat as pounds pile on
as clothes get small and flesh flows big
wade through dark in search of sun
dancing old cold hibernation jig.
