new Stone Rangers

My longest-lasting friend Stone Ranger from 1971 or 2 been warping some of my fotos into his collages.

I’ll post later some of his Stone Ranger & Snorto cartoons from the early 1970’s

Here are his latest:

(a few news headlines from the past 3 months)

Didn’t want to post these police brutality headlines selected from the past three months because they are so negative and depressing. But it’s what we see everyday, see and read and watch and hear.

The police are a para-military force whose primary purpose is to protect the possessions of the rich . . . their secondary purpose is to protect their own power . . . their hobbies seem to be breaking the law and abusing the rest of us.

It’s up to us to not put up with it.

Where’s The Sun This Earth Run?

Between dark of bed
and too early dark of rise
lack of sleep leaves lead.

Unready child
awake in unpromised land
carries dark in heart.

If this be stage,
where’s my mark, what is word,
what my length of run?

Enter stage left
and before exit stage right
place for count each step.

Script is total blank,
and on cue cards
invisible ink.

Applause often sparse
and co-actors lack in tact,
their performance flat.

Change the channel,

The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight took in 500 million dollars . . . this is a country where folks pay half a billion dollars to watch two brown-skinned men beat the shit out of each other . . . a country where white cops kill unarmed blacks with impunity . . . where 62 of 100 Senators are worth a million or more while the rest pocket lobbyist money as fast as they can . . . where corporations buy politicians by the bushel, millionaire football players cheat to win, millionaire baseball players cheat to win, millionaire bicycle racers cheat to win . . . where corporations raking in billions pay no taxes . . where Faux News hate-speakers spew bigotry for cash . . . where clowns and homophobes and racists and sexists openly run for President . . . where cops constantly lie, priests abuse young boys, police hire out as murderers . . . where our government takes from the poorer to give to the richer . . . where our president kills whomever he wants without moral or legal cause — our leaders are crooked, our police are crooked, our corporations are crooked, our newspapers and regulatory agencies toadies to the 1%, our Supreme Court two-thirds corrupt . . . and yet we wonder why there’s such a lack of morality in life today — it’s simple, that’s the way things work now, from the top on down . . yet if you shoplift a loaf of bread to feed your family, you’re jailed . . . the crime ain’t stealing, the crime is not stealing big enough.

What’s really weird is I’m spouting off about morality, yet I stole 13 cars as a kid and spent almost a year in jail for my second armed robbery. On the other hand, I’m a perfect example that one can change, leave a bad path and try to walk a better.

Occupation Station

Tonight’s occupy Cleveland General Assembly meeting – foto Smith

Just stood in the cold for an hour for tonight’s Occupy Cleveland General Assembly so Lady could offer a proposal to help slow down a bank evicting a woman with cancer. It was 29 degrees Fahrenheit but felt like 16 according to It’s going down to 20 tonight – what’s that going to feel like . . . 7 degrees?

Tonight’s hour out in the freeze and blow hurt my feet, hands, neck, and ears. How do these young adults stay out there 24 hours a day 7 days a week manning the open Occupy Cleveland info tent without heat, without tents, without sleeping bags, without electricity, without gas to cook hot food?

I know their youth makes them stronger, sturdier, able to acclimate and endure more. And I know their protesting our country’s rigged money game is going to be one of the moral highlights of their lives, perhaps one of the most important things they’ll ever do for themselves, and us. But still, it’s so cold, bitter.

Lady tries to make it a wee bit better every morning by taking down 4 hot egg and cheese sandwiches for them (or a quiche and fried potatoes, or this morning it was a Spanish omelet) plus a large thermos of coffee one day, cocoa the next (all of which is seriously damaging our low income budget and is forcing us to shop at the Great Satan Wal-Mart so we can afford supplies),

The 8-14 constant info tent occupiers (who refer to themselves as the Troglodytes) wanted December 24th off to rest and shower and drink and party and get warm so Lady decided she would start her 39th birthday off by having us take the 5am to 10am shift.

We started off comfortable and warm in the 29 degree cold, but as the hours pass, the heat seeps from your body and cold creeps in. We spent most the time huddling on the heated sidewalk around the steam grate trying to keep various body parts warm — something I’ve seen the homeless do for years.

By 10am when our relief shift was to arrive I was cold, miserable and more than ready to go home, so of course our relief didn’t show up. Three hours later at 1pm a couple of the regulars returned and we took off. But that 8 hour shift in the cold on the concrete gave me a whole new appreciation for what these occupiers are doing.

And they needn’t have to. Cleveland’s Mayor Frank Jackson is just being petty, pissy, shitty in denying them electricity, heat, tents, sleeping bags, sleep, cooking while hoping that the elements will defeat us where his police mercenaries can’t.

This is especially galling because Cleveland lets Christmas shoppers set up tents in parking lots so they can camp out over night to be first in line for the Big Box Store sales, and they let the Cleveland Brown fans have grills and fire barrels for their illegal tailgate parties, so Mayor Jackson is selectively enforcing city laws — if breaking them benefits his Corporate masters, he looks the other way; but if breaking them involves free speech and the use of our civil rights which embarrass his Corporate owners, he has his SWAT team arrest us.

According to the recent U.S. census, one of every two Americans is slipping into poverty, while less than 1% of the rich own 90% of this country’s wealth – in fact 6 of the Wal-Mart descendants own more wealth then 50 million Americans combined.

This is sick. Just plain wrong. And very shortsighted.

Occupy Wall Street has changed the conversation in this country. Before OWS, this gargantuan disparity in wealth was seldom mentioned in the news; now it is talked about everywhere.

And if the rich and corporations and politicians listen and heed and actually do something about this grotesquely unfair rigged con-game that brings such disparity, we can turm America into a nation we can finally be proud of. If they don’t, then blood will run from boardrooms and mansions into the streets, as it morally should.

Making things fairer might also turn out to be financially more rewarding and definitely physically safer for the elite.

The rich need to realize there are repercussions to their theft and lawlessness. It is in their best interest to start paying their taxes, start paying their employees decent wages, establish universal free healthcare and education, and to stop raping the Earth.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I will remember Mayor Frank Jackson’s corporate ass kissing actions when I walk into the voting booth next election and vote for anyone but Frank Jackson. And that includes any other politician I get to vote on who is not actively supporting Occupy Wall Street.

People and politicians forget that protesters changed the racist segregation laws in this country, forced Nixon to get out of Viet Nam, forced men to give women the vote, forced slave owners to free their slaves. Principles and protest and persevering actions and dedication can and has changed things for the better.

It’s all up to us.

From Snippets from the article with embedded contact info throughout. Suggestion: call and politely ask that freedom of speech, assembly and the innate freedom to work together long term to solve problems (which means sleeping overnight in tents and communal situations sometimes) be respected by people who are mayors and people who are police.

In an interview with the BBC Tuesday, Oakland mayor Jean Quan said that she had coordinated her efforts to crack down on the occupation with the mayors of other major cities.

“I was recently on a conference call with 18 cities across the country who had the same situation where what had started as a political movement and a political encampment ended up being an encampment no longer in control by the people who started them,” said Ms. Quan.

Toward The Sky

Tonight as I write I sing songs
Of soulful bliss extended into storm
The night where i was born
Again as I just became woman
I lived life like I knew you, and I knew
That all these little prayers were for each star handed to me as I spoke of you
Get this world in your hand
And take cover as they attempt to hold back tears
They know they are on the wrong side of justice
Hold on, hold on to your heart and let if fly
Toward the sky
Feel the depth of the planet in your stomach
And sincerely, eagerly participate

Let it all go, let the ‘I know I should’ be replaced
By ‘I can create a new day’.
We have a voice, we have our hand,
We can lift them up to say ‘no more’.
The life I lead can turn hate into pixie dust
Shaken from the palms of children
Onto the ground before you as you stand
With your weapons in hand
Ready to fight progress and truth

The restlessness is white noise silenced
life and faces of innocence triggered sadness
Cold nails drilled souls like yesterday
When the door we opened was abruptly
Shut in our face, our palms reached out to sky
Again to seek guidance
justice whispers her breathless allegiance
Intake coming from our soul, we will no longer
Bail out news, government thinned out like
Hair on a presidents brow, like those taken
From homes, foreclosed, we have foreclosed
Upon ourselves, our ability to speak has
ripped out like rugs under faceless dictators
Those that seek to destroy restoration, take notice.
We have come. We have arrived to ourselves
Like a new day has dawned its fresh face
On our existence. We say goodnight, we let
The moon rise and the light fall onto itself
We end this day with hope.
A new day will be born tomorrow
In the earths womb, she will carry our sorrow
Toward her core, embrace it and hold it close
To her heart. We will be carried by song birds
Facing new mornings, yes, new mornings they have come
To greet us with their hands held out.

Please Speak out Against Violence Against Dogs, Arrests and Other Inappropriate Actions in NY

Update: some are uncertain if the killings of the dogs actually occurred as it has not been widely reported. The NYPD killed 2 dogs, clubbed them in tents. Pepper sprayed another NY sanitation worker while sorting debris of camp. Poured “pee bottles” on the majority of library. They managed to save a few hundred (there were approx. 5,400), all tech found in camp was smashed, spent 6 hours prepping 300+ “post jail kits,” many beaten today… Over 30K on Brooklyn Bridge today. ~Reliable source in NYC~

Another source: over 300 people were arrested yesterday in NY.

Please call or email the mayor of New York at 212-639-9675, email: il/html/mayor.html, and/or call the NYPD at 646-610-5000 and respectfully request that the Occupy Movement be tolerated and respected by the city and people who are police and for it to be allowed to persist easily. You can also go to and send a fax to the Mayor’s office! (212) 788-8123.

Call for Help with Winter Occupation Quarters, Volunteers and Food

Currently looking for space between E 30 and W 30 (marching distance to banks and fed are key here) that is accessible 24/7. (Also, should have heat that won’t cost us a fortune). For the most part this means storefronts or office space (maybe in one of than bank buildings so we can occupy the bank?) but if you’ve got another idea that doesn’t look like that don’t let that limit you.

If you know of a space, know someone who might help us out, or just drove by something with a sign outside and feel like calling and checking, we need your help and any information you find.

First Aid needs more volunteers, and Housekeeping and Sanitation need people to help with the tent. We are running out of food and we call for donations.

Call for Help to Stop Garbage Incinerator

We have an environmental justice issue going on here in Cleveland. We have to put the kabash on this insane deal! Some want to burn toxic garbage right near community gardens and tons of schools. Please help stop this whatever way you can!

Fresh Facilitators Wanted

The facilitation group has asked for fresh people to do the facilitation process. Here’s a training video put out by Occupy Wall Street: Interested parties can get in touch with the Facilitation workgroup as well.

Call for Information

Dear Readers/Occupiers:

People who are planning events and work groups–please email these events to occupyclevelandstories (_at symbol_) so I can post them rather than having dig and dig every morning through the forums and multiple facebook pages to find these items. It is taking between one to three hours to do this Digest every morning, so emailing info to me will help me get this out more quickly.

Please continue to post GA notes daily in the forum “General Assembly” here: It is vital to post these notes for the larger Occupy community so that we know what items are being consented to and what events are consensus events. Thank you to those who have been posting notes!

The Temporary Editor

What Would You Like to See?

Please mail letters to the editor, story ideas, meeting times, articles, etc. to occupyclevelandstories (_at symbol_) Also, the Daily Digest is having a working group meeting Sunday, 10/30 at noon in the Tom Johnson (NW) quadrant of Public Square. If not right in the quadrant, please check the white tent west of the square.

Call for Poetry/Creative Writing/Art Submissions – we’re looking for poetry seeds from the larger poetry community, again, a great outreach action. We’re putting together an Occupy Cleveland poetry zine and I’d like to feature some creative items in the Daily Digest as well. Please send submissions to occupyclevelandpoetry (_at symbol_)

Thank you to all people who are making information available!

So, let’s lighten the load with some odiously odd and seriously silly headlines I’ve harvested from the news sevices these past three years.

With headlines like these, no wondfer Monty Python disbanded — they couldn’t compete anymore.

Letter to the Universe: Ironboltbruce and the 15 Issues of the Occupy Movement

This is a reposting of information compiled by ironboltbruce (he said anyone can repost). He’s mentioned this list of 15 issues that the Occupy Movement has created and has had a creative, personalized take on each of the issues. Am very glad to see this kind of thinking and would like us to think locally in addition to nationally and globally. So I’d like to create my own take on the issues following his example (coming soon). But meanwhile, here’s what he’s said:

The steering committee of the “October 2011 Movement” – the patriots presently occupying Freedom Plaza in Washington DC – published a summary of the 15 issues which are the focus of their protest here:

ISSUE #1. “Corporatism – firmly establish that money is not speech, corporations are not people, only people have Constitutional rights, end corporate influence over the political process, protect people and the environment from damage by corporations.”

Article: Corporatism: “Sold Glory”, the U.S. Flag After Citizens United v. FEC (g1a2d0009c1)

ISSUE #2. “Wars and Militarism – end wars and occupations, end private for-profit military contractors, reduce the national security state and end the weapons export industry. War crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes against peace must be addressed and those responsible held accountable under international law.”

Article: Wars & Militarism: The Real Cause of the Debt Crisis (g1a2d0006c1)

Article: Human Rights: No Flame Burns Hotter Than A Human Torch (g1a2d0012c1)
Image: … uazizi.png

ISSUE #4. “Worker Rights and jobs – all working-age people have the right to safe, just, non-discriminatory and dignified working conditions, a sustainable living wage, paid leave and economic protection.”

Article: U.S. Corporations Firing At Home While Hiring Abroad (g1a2d0016c1)

ISSUE #5. “Government – all processes of the three branches of government should be accountable to international law, transparent and follow the rule of law, people have the right to participate in decisions which affect them.”

Article: Government: The Kleptocracy and You (g1a2d0007c1)
Image: … nd_You.jpg

ISSUE #6. “Elections – all citizens 18 and older have the right to vote without barriers, all candidates have the right to be heard and to run and all votes should be counted.”

Article: Elections: Vote All You Want. The Flight Plan Doesn’t Change. (g1a2d0011c1)
Image: … e_bird.jpg

ISSUE #7. “Criminal justice and prisons – end private for-profit prisons, adopt evidence-based drug policy, prisoners have the right to humane and just conditions with a focus on rehabilitation and reintegration into society, abolish the death penalty.”

Article: Prison for Profit: CCA, GEO et al Put Revenues Ahead of Rehabilitation (g1a2d0018c1)

ISSUE #8. “Healthcare – create a national, universal and publicly financed comprehensive health system.”

Article: Healthcare in America: Who’s Paying Who? And Who’s Getting What? (g1a2d0014c1)

ISSUE #9. “Education – all people have the right to a high quality, publicly-funded and broad education from pre-school through vocational training or university.”

ISSUE #10. “Housing – all people have the right to affordable and safe housing.”

Article: HAMP Disaster Shows U.S. Treasury is “Fully Captured by the Big Banks” (g1a2d0021c1)

Article: Gasholes: Every Oil Shortage/Crisis/War Could Have Been Averted (g1a2d0019c1)

“Democrat”, “Republican”,
The parties of the system;
Puppets both, for sale their votes,
No character or wisdom.

“Liberal”, “Conservative”,
For change or status quo?
Pick either one, the change is none,
All charlatans and whores.

Far “Left” we place the Anarchists,
Libertarians claim far “Right”;
Yet both decry the government:
False continuum brought to light.

For oil, “We” bomb their mud huts,
Strip them bare, then offer “Aid”;
And fake their retribution as
Pretext–a false flag raised.

Unarmed hundred thousands killed
By weapons of “Defense”,
While rights are lost for “Freedom” sake–
On profit, all depends.

With stroke of pen, the “Patriot” Act,
And patriots’ gifts are taken;
Then “Citizens United” leaves
Our citizens forsaken.

We protest loss of liberties,
Put “World Wide Web” to use;
Cloudmark Authority censors us
For “messaging abuse”.

They label us to finger-point,
With labels, “They” deride us;
Their labels keep us all at bay,
For with labels, “They” divide us.

No 9-1-1 for me please, I’m on the wagon

Abolish death – foto by Smith

Ten years ago when I first watched the hijackers crash two airplanes into the World Trade Center Towers, my first response was awe at how people with no army, no money, no war equipment and few soldiers had turned the might of the mightiest military power on the planet against itself by simply using our own commercial airplanes to attack one of the world’s biggest symbols of capitalism.

I’m not forgetting or forgiving their murder of almost 3.000 civilians. Killing civilians is an abomination no matter who does it and is to be condemned whether done by terrorists, drug dealers, armies, nations, world organizations, corporations, the police, or legalized prison executioners.

But their terrorist tactics themselves were brilliant. Now I know this kind of thinking is not going to read well with the corporate-news fed, but if the situation were reversed and we’d successfully attacked the world’s biggest arms supplier terrorist nation who had been bombing our civilians, we’d be making movies and hit records about it.

Fact is, since 1950, the USA has been the major aggressor in the world — we’ve continuously bombed and invaded sovereign nations without declaring war, we’ve assassinated other country’s leaders, we’ve kidnapped citizens of foreign countries and tortured them, we’ve fomented coups, we’ve declared illegal embargoes on entire nations and killed half a million children in the process.

The USA is the biggest maker and seller of weapons of mass destruction in the world; ipso facto, we’re the largest terrorist organization. And yet our defense budget is bigger than the rest of the world’s defense budgets combined.

Recent government cables revealed U.S. soldiers in Iraq handcuffed 10 citizens — a 70 year old woman, a 5 month baby, 4 toddlers under 5 and 4 civilians — then shot them in the head and called down an air strike to destroy evidence of their actions. The Iraqi government complained and we ignored them.

If other countries did this to us, we’d fight back. So I understand why we were attacked — it was simple retribution for all the brown-red-yellow-black-skinned people we have killed and are still killing around the world ever since we moved to North America and started in on the Indians and the Mexicans.

The bad joke here is fewer than 3,000 Americans died in the towers . . . George W. Bush and Dick Cheney have killed more than 3,000 Americans in their retaliation, not to mention murdering over one million Iraqi civilians which is exceptionally perverse because Iraq had nothing to do with either 9-1-1 or weapons of mass destruction.

Dick Cheney, George W. Bush, Rumsfeld, Karl Rove, Gonzalez, Yoo, Rice, Tenant and scores more should be on trial right now for torture and war crimes and crimes against humanity. Instead most of them are on book tours raking in big bucks and yucks.

As for me, the sound of Americans cheering the deaths of yellow-brown-red-black skinned people causes unpleasant tension between what I see and what I was taught to believe we stood for as a people. Christians who kill and then strut in blood step bragging strike me as somewhat hypocritical.

You know, for a book whose main tenant is Thou Shalt Not Kill, there’s certainly a lot of blood shed under its aegis.
