WALKING ON THIN ICE

Smith 0, Lady 1

Lady

2 poems this morning. Plus a plethora of unposted haiku for a haiku-a–day-September-way suggested by Mary E. Weems.

Thought I’d stop writing poems for a vacation but they didn’t stop, so I just quit posting them. Also slowed blogging from daily posts to less than once a week. Feels good.

Conversation with Wife 8

Lady left her dresser drawers open.

“You know, you probably don’t know this
but these drawers actually close.”

“Not when I’m in a hurry they don’t.”

“Hurry got nuthin’ to do with it,
you never close them.”

“That’s because they’re already clothes.”

Light Socket

Dim in here,
wall dark with window showing soft sun on shade
of slow sway leaf tree,
low glow in here raised levels
by go glow out there,
gold flow my TV,
my mantra,
my secret transcendental meditation word,
my home Om alone.

THOUGHTS ABOUT FLUTES AND BELLS

THOUGHTS ABOUT FLUTES AND BELLS

As seriously as a loon quibbles
the peace of indigenous flutes
adds flavor to the wind

And bells distill us into
their jar of sound
the thud of us
into a potter’s hands,
clay and wheel
