Money Jungle – Duke Ellington, Mingus, Max Roach

From what I read, the session for the Money Jungle album — 1963, Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Max Roach — was tense. Per one version, part way through, Mingus packed up his bass and left, disgusted by Ellington’s selfishness, with Ellington chasing him down the street trying to talk him out of leaving. The tension’s evident in the title cut, making the song even better.
