WALKING ON THIN ICE

Ritual Rising

Ritual Rising

Coffee in the morning
kitty with the purr
wife with the kiss lips
happiness pure

Peter Ball and I recorded a new tune Tuesday. A laid back sexual blues . . . lyrics below since reverb muffles my words. Peter Ball music and recording, me lyrics and vocals. 4:39. I like this one, it’s low key, though I’d like it more if I could hear my words clearly.

Tune Up (the song)

Gal you been runnin’ uneven
need to work your wobble wheel
I say you been runnin’ uneven
need to smooth that wavy wheel
give it a real good greasin’
then see how she feels.

Let’s clean your big head gasket
do the spit and shine
clean your old head gasket
while we do the spit and shine
no use taking to the casket
what we can share here like wine.

Come on gal, let’s raise your hood
start my fine tune dance
need to race your motor good
make it sputter utter chance
gonna chase the rising blood
when we turn up these amps.

You got that rough round red wagon
burning rubber straight from hell
I mean baby your little red wagon
razes rudder rather well
you’re my fiery fed dragon
and I’m deep in your wishing well.

Most folk moanin’ about something
moanin’ morning, noon, and night
groanin’ after some hankering
for a tone that just ain’t right
so they go and lose their anchoring
slip slide outa sight.

Come on gal, let’s raise your hood
start my fine tune dance
need to race your motor good
make it utter chance
gonna chase the rising blood
when we turn up these amps.

Well we gotta beep them chimes
do the sacred shake and shudder
I tell you it ain’t no crime
to roll the rocking rather
time after time after time after time
till we go and come together.

So Lady let’s fine-tune this mean machine
check it all out for clues
see how your equipment leans
make sure there’s nothing loose
lick your connections clean
jump start your vital juice.

Poetry Month Poems ~ Lady ~ #30

Be fain to leap
from comfortable sludge
of warm pajamas to gymnopédies
of beginner’s mind like a monk taking
three breaths, saying a gatha,
and getting out of bed

A long draught of water
fresh as the splash of a harp,
clean cotton, naked feet on the floor,
koto music and meditation,
sunrise Éthiopiques for
the new day

~ Lady

Thoughts Before the Sun

Thoughts Before the Sun

Deep liquid dark.
Caffeine coursing through my wet.
Light it bring to me.

Let us lattice.
Ain’t no free lunch to give away,
just a bunch of fee.

Karma curves around in end
to cover sloppy seconds,
juicy fruits.

Each day a cavatina,
no second strain or repetition,
yet echo of the same.

In this pre-dawn womb
of dark and safe and caffeine quiet,
bulk of day is born.

My song I sing the same,
to get through day
unspreading pressing pain.

May the sky of sun be blue,
may the flowers flower
and love be true.

Poetry Month Poems ~ Lady ~ #29

Finch
short shuffling inching,
hopping forward on dappled perch,
ebullient warble projected at the hen
of his affection

She flirtatiously tilts
a long blade of grass from her beak,
head tipped just so, still,
listens

From his puffed up chest
arias of moonlit skies
and paradise

~ Lady

Poetry Month Poems – Lady’s #28

Inclination for ornamentation
for ceremonial reflections about necessities of life
the indulgence of free time scrimshawed
on ivory, cultivation of craft culminating
in the ballroom dance of celtic knots
on niello, mandalic meditations
on damascene, gold gilded
onto the firelight of night

~ Lady

Poetry Month Poems ~ Lady’s #27

He fixed his face
in work’s intense solemnity
cornerstone chinking into place
humming build your love, build your love,
build your love on a strong foundation

Birthing something new
from the gristle and grind of his hands’
and mind’s labors, transcendent cadenzas
shining on facets of transfigurations
red carpets popping out like tongues
from advent boxes, discoveries
of inner maiden voyages

Poetry Month Poems – Lady’s #26

Dark-eyed junco dits, smacks
and tinkles chips–metal songed members
of flocks, passerines shuffling on perches,
passapied rushes, neck raises, fan tails
and chases, badinage of loving nests and
stubborn pecks, community dynamics
and avian adultery

~ Lady

Out at the In-laws 15

Out at the In-laws 15

Heading toward Dead Man’s Curve
rush hour traffic sun setting behind us
Screaming Jay screaming “I put a spell on you,”
this outlaw’s en route to in-laws
to see if queen bee free from three day cage,
black and blues oozing
Guitar Slim, Memphis Slim, Slim Harpo,
Little Walter & his Dukes from the speakers
as we zoom by Vrooman Road
Ashtabula bound to our beehive three days old
to see if hive survives
thrives in deep river of song above the pond
where blob turned turtle turns green heron
fishing with its mate
as my mate enjoying Cletus Black
and Otis Taylor
cuts chive into sour cream saying
“This is from the yard”
and I reply
“I like knowing where my chives come from.
And my hives.
Like to keep my spare chives in my hive,
And my hives in the chives.
Once had five hives
aligned and alive in one chive
with my Jekyll jive and Hyde.”

tune up / queen bee check

one of our bees checking me out

Checked our beehive yesterday three days after first dumping the bees into their new home . . . was worried because we could see no bees coming or going and I’m thinking they’re dead or gone, but there were lots when we opened the hive and saw the queen has been released. Now we check in a week to see if there is egg laying. If so, we’re in business.

Listened to an imported blues anthology on the way out to the hive . . . two cds with a total of 50 old-timey blues classics cost $2, plus another couple bucks shipping. That’s 4 cents a song. Anyway after hearing 25 of them, I wrote this blues tune. Record it next week.

Tune Up

Gal you been runnin’ uneven
need to work your wobble wheel
I say I see you be runnin’ uneven
need to smooth your wavy wheel
give it a real good greasin’
then see how it feels.

Let’s paint your big bread basket
do the spit and shine
yes let’s re-rig your big bread basket
all wet with spit and shine
no use taking to the casket
what we can share here like rare wine.

You got that rough round red wagon
burning rubber straight from hell
I mean baby your little red wagon
razes rudder rather well
you’re my fiery fed dragon
and I’m deep in your wishing well.

Come on gal, let’s raise your hood
start my fine tune dance
need to race your motor good
make it sputter utter chance
gonna race some rising blood
when we turn up these amps.

Most folk moanin’ about something
moanin’ morning, noon, and night
groanin’ after some hankering
for a tone that just ain’t right
so they go and lose their anchoring
slip slide outa sight.

Well we gotta ring them chimes
do the shake and shudder
I tell you it ain’t no crime
to roll the rocking rather
time after time after time after time
till we go and come together.
